Holi is meant for the zest, fun, and lot of colors, music and definitely many Holi cuisines. After the long hours of enjoyment, who would not love to have some cool and refreshing drinks? Here are some of the special Holi drinks which are mouth savouring and also easy to prepare.
Kesar Elaichi Lassi
This is one of the drink which every Holi revelers and food would love to include in their cuisine. After playing the festival of colors, try the Kesar Ealichi Lassi as a change from the usual lassi. This is also a healthy refreshment compared to the aerated drinks. You just need chilled curd, a pinch of saffron, sugar or honey as per your requirement and cardamom powder and almonds. Blend the curd till it gets into a smooth consistency and add all the other ingredients except almonds. Now mix it all again and serve in the glass. Garnish with the almonds. You can also add milk to the mixture, if you don’t want the hard consistency. Apart from almond, you can add pistachio, cashewnut crumps or crushed walnut for a difference.
There is no Holi without Thandaai. Most of us know how to make Thandaai at home. People also prefer buying readymade Thandaai too. But did you know it won’t even take an hour’s time to prepare this flavorful drink. Ingredients you need make it are available at home which we use in our daily cooking. Cardamoms, a bit of fennel seeds, coriander seeds, melon seeds, sugar, peppercorns, almonds, rose petals, rose water and milk are the required to make this drink. Roast and soak all the ingredients except milk in water. Make a paste of these ingredients, mix it with milk, and strain it. Refrigerate it. Serve it adding rose petals in it. Your homemade Thandaai is ready to drink.
For all those who love mangoes can try this mango lassi on this Holi. Mix chopped pieces of 3-4 mangoes with sugar or honey along with cardamom powder or rose water. Blend this mixture for a smooth consistency. Now add the yogurt or curd into the blender and mix it again. Your Mango Lassi is all ready to serve. Pour it into the glass and serve it with pieces of mango on the top.
Chocolate Thandai (Children’s special)
Children have a gaga time on Holi as there is no restrictions to play on this day. It’s fun, fun and fun. Increase their fun and happiness a bit more with their favourite chocolates in a different way. Make them happy with chocolate drink Chocolate Thandaai on this special festivity. Make this simple drink with chocolates, milk, cardamom powder, cinnamon powder, almonds, pistachios, melon seeds, chashwenuts, sugar, peppercorns powder and saffron. Grind all the ingredients adding little milk into a paste except chocolate and saffron. Melt the chocolate and keep it aside. Boil the milk, add the saffron and sugar in it. Add the paste into the milk and the melted chocolate into the milk and stir it well. Allow it to chill and serve it.
As similar to Thandaai, Bhaang too is one of the unavoidable drinks in this colorful. In many parts of India, people serve bhang in various ways; while some make sweets, some serve it as a drink. Bhang Lassi is one of the refreshment which is usually made during the festival of Holi and Shivaratri. The simple drink just needs bhang leaves boiled made into paste along with few almonds, milk, water, ginger juice and sugar. Mix the leave paste into one glass of milk and mix it well. Strain the mix and add it into remaining milk. Add in remaining ingredients and serve it.
